Borley Rectory -

Built in 1863, Borley Rectory has been described at the most haunted house in England. It was built on top of an ancient monastery and hauntings on the location were well known before the house was even built. The most common ghost sighting was that of a ghostly nun who was seen walking a path that became known as “The Nun’s Walk”. This spirit quickly became a nuisance to the owners of the newly built house as she took to startling guests by peering in through the windows. According to the history of the area the ghost is that of a nun who fell in love with a monk from the old monastery. When the two eloped they were both tracked down and executed with the nun being walled into the cellar of the monastery. She wasn’t the only ghost to appear in the house though, she was eventually joined by the apparition of a coach and horses that would race up the drive way.

The next set of owners tried to find a way to stop the haunting so they brought a psychic investigator to the house to speak to the spirits. This triggered poltergeist activity. Objects were smashed and thrown at the investigator until he was forced to leave. That set of owners only lasted two years in the rectory before they moved out.

When the next owner, Revd Lionel Foyster, moved into the house the ghosts took a liking to his young wife. It became a regular occurrence that objects would be thrown at her and messages would appear carved into the walls addressed to her. Eventually an exorcism was performed on the house which succeeded for a few days before the haunting came back, this time worse than before. Strange music would be heard from the church, the communion wine would turn into ink, the servant’s bells rang on their own and the Foyster’s child was attacked by “something horrible”. The attack on their child was enough to make the family leave and no one would rent the house.

The psychic investigator returned to the house to the house to try and preform one more paranormal investigation. During a séance a spirit told him that a grave would be revealed when the house burned down. Exactly 11 months later an oil lamp was accidently tipped over and the house caught alight. Witnesses to the blaze claimed to have seen ghosts wandering amongst the flames and the nun stood staring through one of the windows. The skeletal remains of a woman were found buried in the cellar of the house and in an attempt to put the spirit at rest the remains were given a Christian burial. This didn’t work and strange happenings are still reported around the ruins of the burnt out rectory.

The Black Monk of Pontefract (also referred to as The Pontefract Poltergeist) is an alleged poltergeist haunting that occurred in the late 1960s and early 1970s in the home of Joe and Jean Pritchard on 30 East Drive Chequerfield Estate in Pontefract. This particular activity is often noted by ghost researchers as unusual because of the purported physical apparition of a hooded figure that accompanied the otherwise typical disruptive behaviours of the supernatural entity. It is regarded as the most violent poltergeist haunting in Europe.

Activity

The disturbances now referred to as the haunting of The Black Monk of Pontefract allegedly began shortly after the Pritchard family moved into their home in the historic market town of Pontefract, along with their 13-year-old daughter Diane went for a holiday during the Bank Holiday, leaving their son Phillip (aged 15) behind with Mrs. Pritchard’s mother, Sarah Scholes.  While alone in the house, Sarah Scholes felt a cold gust of wind, despite the warm late-summer weather outside. When Phillip re-entered the house, he noticed white powder falling from mid-air all around the living room floor. Shortly after, puddles of water began appearing on the kitchen floor. A plumber was called in that evening, but he could not offer an explanation for the apparent leakage, as the surface underneath the linoleum floors were completely dry and there was no evidence of ruptured pipes. When, that same night, a heavy chest of drawers began swaying without explanation, Mrs Scholes and Phillip left the home to sleep at a neighbour’s out of fear.

When Mr and Mrs Pritchard returned home from their holiday, the disturbances had stopped, and thus they concluded that the phenomena must have had some logical explanation; especially since, for the following two years they continued living in the house without the slightest peculiar activity.

However, as abruptly as it ended, the poltergeist phenomena began again, this time plaguing the family for several years- though they refused to succumb and move from their home. The main target of the activity during the second phase seemed to be the daughter, Diane, who was often thrown from her bed, and, in one instance, dragged up the stairs by an invisible hand that left lacerations on her neck.

Loud inexplicable crashing sounds were common, especially in the presence of outside company. Objects too went flying around the air and crashing, or dematerialising and then reappearing in a different location. Though on two occasions, exorcisms were attempted, these measures seemed only to agitate the situation.

After a concerned family friend doused holy water throughout the home, the poltergeist responded by painting upside-down crosses on the living room walls and doors, and destroying the crucifixes that decorated the Pritchard house.

Physical manifestation

The physical manifestation of the poltergeist did not occur until quite late in the haunting. The figure first appeared to Joe and Jean Pritchard while they lay in bed. The two allegedly saw a black-cloaked figure (with the cowl over its head) hovering over their bed, but it soon dissipated. On a few subsequent occasions, other members of the home as well as visitors reported seeing a figure that looked like a monk, though no one ever glimpsed a face underneath the robes. The haunting abruptly ceased, never to occur again.

Explanations

Many theories have been put forth to explain the disturbances, and especially, the unique apparition of the force behind them. Ten years after the Black Monk of Pontefract ceased his activity, paranormal investigator Tom Cuniff visited the Pritchard home and researched the story. At the mention of the monk, he wished to explore whether the apparition could be a remnant from the local priory which had existed from 1090-1539, and whose gallows were just across the hill from the Pritchard home. Mr Cuniff proposed in his writings that a Cluniac monk that had existed during Henry VIII’s reign that was hanged for the rape and murder of a young girl. Hence, the poltergeist activity focused on Diane and could be interpreted as sexual in nature.

Colin Wilson also investigated the Black Monk of Pontefract. His theory proposed that poltergeists find their energy in unhappy households and that tensions between Phillip and Mr Pritchard made the home susceptible. Also, the area surrounding the Chequerfield Estate, according to Wilson, favoured manifestations because they contained particular spiritual force from their religious histories. Hence, the location was key to the poltergeist activity.

The Doncaster Research Group also looked into the disturbances, and concluded that Philip faked the entire haunting.

The Pontefract Castle which lies near the Chequerfield Estate is now a popular tourist destination, both because of its rich history (King Richard II is thought to have been murdered there), and because of the reported sightings of a black monk walking from the kitchen to the Queen’s Tower. Whether this apparition of a monk is related to the Pritchard family’s remains inconclusive.

ritchiebrockpi:

One of the most violent and terrifying types of Paranormal Phenomena are Demonic Hauntings. A Demonic Haunting is when a demonic force enters the life of an Individual through voluntary or involuntary means.  There are several ways this can occur and I just wanted to take some time to kind of explain the process and offer some tips on dealing with the demonic from an investigative standpoint as well as ways to avoid encounters with these beings.

There are many ways the demonic can affect and influence our lives. I could sit here months and go on and on and on listing the ways and it still wouldn’t even scratch the surface. The demonic work together in teams like a pack of wolves, they wait and watch for the perfect chance to attack. These beings have no sense of time like we do and are perfectly positioned to bide their time and strike us at our lowest point of weakness. Demons are like sharks, when they smell blood in the water or in this case High Energy situations they come running. Pain, Depression, Hopelessness, Sadness, Grief all these emotions are charged with energy and they draw in all kinds of spiritual energies like moths to a flame.

Demonic Obsession

Demonic Obsession is when someone becomes consumed with the desire to seek darkness and the power it brings. Now this is normally very subtle Its very rare to find someone who is purposely seeking demonic forces its just not something anyone in their rational mind would ever consider doing. Probably the most wide-spread and popular ways this happens is through spiritual channels like Ouija Boards, Tarot Cards and other forms of divination. These methods of spiritual channeling are often marketed as games and entertainment and all too often lead down much darker paths. These tools are meant to draw you in. Anything mysterious naturally attracts our full attention and that is just a hop and a skip from becoming obsessed. Demons see this Obsession and use it as an open door to your life. Unfortunately this addictive nature is our downfall. Put it this way, People all over the world are out there using these things thinking they’re talking to long dead relatives when In reality you have no way of knowing who you are communicating with and inviting into your home. What once seemed like sweet old Aunt Rita turns out to be something far more sinister. As long as the person plays along and is caught in this Obsession they are less likely to see negative or harmful manifestations until they turn away from the demonic then they strike. This is probably the most common ways the darkness enters our lives

Demonic Oppression

Demonic Oppression is the state in which an Individual is being manipulated and Influenced by a Demon. After a demonic force has a doorway into your life it begins its slow but steady assault. Often people affected by these things don’t even realize they are being “Worked On” until its too late. After all does a thief turn on the lights when robbing your house? No, they prefer for you to believe they aren’t real and in a world full of spiritual blindness and disbelief more and more people are falling into the snares of the devil. Some of the signs of Demonic Oppression range from constant feelings of hate, rage and anger to larger situations like extreme depression, self-destructive behavior and even suicide. I know a lot about the aspects of this type of haunting from personal experience. I lost one of my family members due to the amount of stress and emotional damage that plague a person in this state. Demons want nothing more than to destroy you and will do anything and everything to bring you down. During Oppression they will play at your very deepest, darkest, most painful memories and will not let up until they have you beaten. So if you’re reading this and you’re having similar troubles I would strongly suggest you contact your local pastor or clergymen for help. At this stage you can still fight back and win but you must have the strength to fight that only God can bring through faith in him.

Demonic Possession

Pea Soup, spinning heads and a lot of bad acting is normally how the public at large view possession. They see it as something from the distant past as if people who suffer from it are either crazy or complete pathological liars seeking attention. While there are of course a lot of mental disabilities out there, Possession, Is something entirely different. Now I need to confess I spent the first few years of my research very skeptical on demonic phenomenon. There were even times where I dismissed the possibility entirely until I began to witness it myself. When someone goes under demonic possession they lose all control over their physical self and become a puppet for the demonic spirit to work through. We have all seen Hollywood try to portray possession in various types of ways but they are nothing compared to the real thing. They’re may be no spinning heads and pea soup in its real life counterpart but the horror and viciousness of possession are something you are never ready to witness. In my 8 years of Investigating Ive came across demonic possessions maybe only a handful of times. Once the person is in the midst of the demons grab it becomes a nightmare to release them. While most cases of possessions last mere hours and the victim is released they can also take a deadly turn. There are some cases in which the clergy battles the demonic for months, even years and sadly the possessed dies in the process. Basically they longer you are in the demon’s hold the harder it becomes to pull it out of you. When it comes to things like this nothing can ever be taken for granted or ruled out. There are cases where the possessed experiences scratches on their bodies in threes to mock the trinity, they can suddenly manifest super human strength and even levitation has even been reported.  But in all cases the solution is the same, total deliverance or exorcism.

In conclusion the demonic are a branch of the paranormal that really needs more study and to be taken seriously. People need to wake up and really make sure they are taking care of themselves spiritually because the lack thereof can be deadly

Posey Chapel and Cemetery. La Porte, Indiana.

A century and a half ago the church was burnt down and the preacher hung himself from a tree as you enter the gate; The same tree was also used many times by the KKK to hang their victims.

At night you can see the activity under the pavilion that is where the chapel once stood. Red eyes can be seen and a red light of some sort can be seen moving through the woods. Also many orbs are seen in this area.

all-thats-interesting:

The Old Ashe County Hospital

Located in Ashe County, North Carolina, the hospital in question is well-known throughout the area for various paranormal activity. Most investigators have reported hearing disembodied voices that sounded like doctors or patients going about their tasks as if the hospital was still in operation, while others have heard voices responding to their presence or asking questions. While aural activity seems most prevalent in this case, some teams have also caught images of ghostly mists and orbs on location.

Hot Lake Hotel and Sanitarium: Vacation for the Dead

Built in Oregon in the late 1800s, Hot Lake Hotel was originally built as a vacation spot thanks to its ideal location near a natural hot springs, but was quickly purchased and converted into a sanitarium and hospital for the mentally ill. After a fire nearly destroyed the building, it was once again converted back into a hotel, but many believe parts of the sanitarium remained. Owners and guests at Hot Lake have reported hearing footsteps and voices throughout the hotel as well as seeing spectral individuals walking around the grounds. The last owners of the location also reported hearing music playing a lack thereof on the premises as well as screams and shouts coming from the areas that once served as a hospital.

The Ghostly Crew of Flight 401

In 1972, Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 experienced a malfunction in their autopilot that resulted in a tragic crash directly into the Florida Everglades. Of the nearly 160 passengers and crew on board, 101 people perished in the event. While that may seem to have been the end of Flight 401’s story on Earth, the crew seemed to live on through the salvaged parts from Flight 401. According to the stories, the ghosts of the captain and flight engineer from 401 began to appear on various planes fitted with 401’s salvaged parts and, at times, were found interacting with members of the crew before vanishing.

La Isla de las Muñecas

In the Mexican district of Xochimilco, a small island sits nestled in what many consider to be one of the country’s most haunted locations. The Island of the Dolls was created by local loner Julián Santana Barrera after he discovered the drowned body of a young girl near the island years ago. According to Barrera, he felt a need to appease the spirit of the dead girl he found and began collecting dolls to hang from the island trees in order to settle her spirit and drive away any evil spirits that may have come with her. Today, the island remains a tourist attraction and many claim to have seen mysterious orbs of light traveling between tree branches and the eyes of the hundreds of dolls blinking as they pass.

We’ve all heard of ghosts haunting crumbling mansions or creepy forests, but tales of sunken spirits are far less common. With that in mind, here are a few spooky stories that might make you think twice about taking a dip in your favorite swimming hole.

Underwater Ghost Hunters
Hundreds of teams hunt spooks on land, but the Paranormal Divers are the only group to take the search for ghosts underwater. The Florida-based team investigates everything from shipwrecks to caves, and has run across some frightening phenomenon during their time under the waves.

In one expedition, the Paranormal Divers spotted “a weird unexplained light phenomenon” in the water under Tampa Bay’s Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The bridge has a tragic history, including 200+ suicides and a 1980 collapse that sent 35 motorists plunging to their deaths. Could the light be related to these awful events?

In another investigation, members of the paranormal dive team reportedly heard screams coming from a flooded underground cavern. Intrigued, someone pointed a camera in the direction of the noise and took a photo. “The first underwater ghost photo” may not look like much, but members of the team claim it shows a ghostly diver’s face mask. What do you think?

Blue Hole Ghosts
Additionally, there are several “blue holes,” or underwater sinkholes, reportedly haunted by ghosts, ghouls, and other paranormal creatures. Last year, the Santa Rosa Communicator reported that two scuba instructors saw a ghost with a pink tank near the bottom of the city’s blue hole. The instructors thought it was another diver, but were shocked when the mysterious person disappeared without a trace. The couple reported the incident to police who claimed to have heard similar reports about a disappearing diver. A similar ghost diver story appeared in the Toronto Sun in 2007.

haunted blue hole new jersey

Rumor has it that a small pool of water located deep in the pine barrens of Winslow, New Jersey (left) is home to an invisible being that drags hapless swimmers to a watery death. Mysterious whirlpools and deadly quicksand also plague the Winslow blue hole, or so the stories go. Similar legends surround a blue hole in Washington, Indiana where a 1913 railroad disaster claimed the lives of several men. Several other regions boast haunted blue holes which many imagine are bottomless.

Demonic Hauntings: 10 Clues To Consider

Demonic entities are a rare occurrence and there are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there that will tell you otherwise. So I’m here to give you simple clues to look for when you’re attempting to ascertain whether or not you’re dealing with a demon.

#1 – Hatred of Scripture

Someone who is possessed by a demonic entity will not abide scripture. The recitation of scripture will elicit a violent reaction. Also the person generally should not be able to recite scripture; rarely will they be able to. They will also tend to show an aversion to things like a cross or holy water. If the location is infested with a demonic presence the recitation of scripture will have a decidedly pronounced effect in the area. There may be physical manifestations such as objects being hurled through the air, temperature changes (typically warmer), feelings of heaviness, and auditory phenomena.

#2 – Multiple Personalities

These personalities manifest themselves with no previous history of mental illness. They do not generally manifest themselves in everyday life. These personalities are like primal forces with intelligence and malice.

#3 – Voice Change

More often this occurs with the multiple personalities the demonic entity manifests. The person makes a very unusual and seemingly impossible voice. There are times when the voice may seem to be coming from many places or from many people with an echo. 9 out of 10 we’re not talking an Amityville Horror “GET OUT!” voice, this voice can be high pitched or even simply whispery. The most common and oh so subtle is the growl.

#4 – Super-Human Physical Capabilities

Those who are possessed, when the demon has been angered, are capable of feats of great strength. Rarely they might also exhibit great dexterity.

#5 – Qui Lingo Is Est

Many times the possessed will speak in a language in which they have no previous knowledge. Sometimes it’s a dead language. Since demonic entities have apparently existed throughout the history of our species it knows many languages from various cultures separated both in place and time.

#6 – Changes In Eating Habit

The person eats excessively without putting on poundage or the person does not eat at all and seems to become lard ass. Sometimes the possessed will eat something unimaginable (like insects or various other unmentionable foulness), or their tastes for foods will become drastically different.

#7 – Wounds

Scratches, punctures, welts and in extreme cases even words might appear on the skin. If there are letters or words make sure that it’s not an effect like Wayne Houchin’s Stigmata.

#8 – Physical & Visual Phenomena

Phenomena such as moving objects, feeling a great weight is pushing down on you, shadows seem to move or morph, the appearance of someone familiar, etc. can be signposts of demonic entities.

#9 – Auditory Phenomena

Sounds such as growling, knocking on the walls or ceiling, a relatives voice calling for you but they are not there are symptoms of a demonic presence.

#10 – Stench

I understand hygiene is important but this is more than mere B.O. Not in every case will you come across this but a foul stench like rotting flesh can accompany a demonic haunting.

The Royal Hotel is one of Japan’s more notorious haunted places. The hotel is unfinished and off limits to the public, but it is possible to take pictures from afar. This may be, in fact, as close as you want to get to this abandoned hotel.
The story has it that the hotel was built on the sacred grounds of the Nakagusuku Castle ruins. Angering the spirits that resided there, the hotel’s construction was doomed from the start. Construction workers were killed on the job and the owner eventually went bankrupt and, some say, insane before the project was finished. The abandoned hotel is located near the official Nakagusuku Ruins in Okinawa, Japan

Ruins of Kogen Hotel (Takahara Hotel), near Nakagusuku Castle ruins, Okinawa, Japan, January 2010 Okinawa is home to dozens of ruined vegetation covered castles, and now that the weather is no longer brutally hot, its interesting to explore them.  Most of them arent very exciting, just sections of walls built back up and empty enclosed courtyards, but the one in Nakagusuku, which I hadnt visited before, is my new favorite.  It was built in the 15th century, and is on a very high point on Okinawa where you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea, depending on which direction you are looking.  Macbeth would have said it hath a pleasant seat. In addition to sweeping panoramic views, it had a number of nooks and crannies and shrines and caves, including a steep, stone staircase that led down to a well, which was still full of clear water.  The well itself was kind of creepy&the air around it was really really cold.  There was a noticeable temperature difference between the top and the bottom of the stairs, even though it was all outdoors. At this point the castle site was almost about to close for the day, but towards the very back of the ruins, one could see the reputedly haunted remains of the Royal Hotel, about 50 yards away.  I tried to get as close as I could for the photo, and might have crawled onto the top of a wall behind a primitive safety barrier *whistles*, but it was just too interesting to pass up.  I sat there in the bleak afternoon&and I tried to see how one could approach the hotel itself, on a future trip.  The ruins themselves are really creepy looking&and as I sat there, I heard a mysterious howling moaning sound coming from inside them.  I would like to say that it was probably a dog&but what if it wasnt? The back story that I could glean says the hotel was built in the 1970s by a businessman from Naha, Okinawas capital, who wanted to capitalize on the sites location next to the castle ruins.  Villagers told him that the area was sacred (there are many many old and forgotten tombs there in the jungle), but he spent millions on his hotel, which had sort of a haphazard layout, reputedly without any sort of blueprints.  Stairs led to nowhere in a maze of hallways. Some Buddhist monks from a nearby temple came and told him that he was building too close to a sacred cave with restless spirits in it, but he refused to stop.  Some workers left after they heard the warnings, and still more left after their fellow workmen were killed in a series of mysterious accidents.  Finally, the businessman decided to prove his hotel was not haunted by spending every night there until construction was finished.  He lasted three nights, went insane, became bankrupt and was committed at an institution on the island or, some stories say, he killed himself two weeks later. Another rumor says a monk took up residence in the hotel ruins and built an altar, in order to appease the restless spirits.  Another section of the hotel was thought to have been used as a brothel, and bears the marks of a mysterious fierce fire.  Apparently, there are still rooms full of abandoned furniture and ragged curtains and tatami mats and all kinds of creepiness&and of course, I sort of have a itching to go see it myself, although its probably a foolish idea.  We shall see. (Finally visited here.) What the site looks like from the nearby castle

I’m sure you’ve heard plenty of stories about haunted places and the terrifying things that go on there, but what makes them so haunted?  Hunting’s can happen to everyone in all walks of life. Even famous people like Nicolas Cage, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Dane Cook claimed to have lived in haunted places, though most have either moved out or cleaned out the bad spirits. There are plenty of signs to look for when you are in a house that may be haunted, and these are the top 10.

10. Strange smells

One usual sign your place could be haunted is strange smells you normally shouldn’t sense. These scents can be abrupt and come from nowhere. A spirit may sometimes bring with it scents it was once familiar with or had, such as cigar smoke or fresh flowers. Knowing whether or not the smells are coming from the house, or from the spirit itself is one way of determining if your house has other inhabitants you may not know about.

9. Odd dreams of people or places you don’t know

If a spirit resides in the house, sometimes they can cause you to dream or even have nightmares about them.  You may dream of strange places you’ve never been to or people you can’t recognize. It could be a sign that they are trying to explain their story or make contact with you. You have to understand that sometimes, these are spirits of people who have died under extremely unfortunate circumstances. Dreaming about them or places they are familiar with is a sign that the house is still imprinted with their signature and they may not have passed over.  You can often find out the history of your home by going to a public records and seeing if you recognize any of the news stories or people contained in the archives.

8. Feeling of being watched

Some people can be more sensitive to the spirit world than others, and may feel like they are being watched by something lurking in the shadows. Although you shouldn’t rely on this feeling alone to determine whether the house is haunted or not, it can be a sign. If you sense that someone, or thing, is watching you, look around and see if you can detect any other strange phenomenon around you. Don’t be afraid to go out and investigate as this can provide reassurance that others aren’t around. Sometimes when people first move into a new home, they are overcome with the constant feeling of being watched, and it shouldn’t be ignored if it occurs in combination with other signs.

7. Heaviness in the Air

Some people are sensitive to the fields caused when a ghost or entity is present in the house, and it often gives the feeling of a heaviness in the air that can sometimes make it harder to breathe. Sudden changes in the air can be triggered by a spirit manifesting itself in the house, and it’s another sign there could be something lurking in your house. Normal people can detect these changes as well because of the abrupt changes that happen. Usually after a cleansing, or even an exorcism in more extreme cases, people report the air getting lighter almost instantaneously the rituals are complete.

6. Noises

Are you hearing strange noises, or even whispers that can’t be explained? There’s a reason for all the noises, and that’s because the spirit or entity may be trying to make its presence known. Of course there can be many noises that can be caused by common household objects or by the house itself, but knowing what noises are normal and which aren’t can help you determine the possible cause. Most spirits don’t make noises that are detectable by the human ear and require evp equipment to track. However, there are spirits called poltergeists (noisy spirits) which are well known to produce some terrifying noises by throwing objects around and making things go bump in the night.

5. Changes in air temperature

Sudden changes in the temperature around you is often a good indicator a spirit is nearby. If you travel through the house and you notice some rooms are much colder than others, or you feel the air around you suddenly getting lower, then it’s probably not your a/c.  Sometimes when spirits are around, the air becomes colder because it is absorbing the energy around it in order to manifest. Sometimes you may walk through an unusually cold spot in the house even though the air around it is normal. Just because things get cold however, doesn’t mean you’ll see the figure itself, but it’s still a sign that something is near.

4. Things moving around

Some spirits like to move things, sometimes when you’re not there. You should take notice when these types of things happen. If you know for sure that you’ve put an object somewhere, and it moves from its’ original place, then perhaps you should consider stranger reasons. Entities in the house may be trying to make its presence known by moving objects, or they may be trying to play tricks on you by hiding them in places you normally wouldn’t put them. Knowing for sure where you put things can help you determine what type of phenomenon is really happening. Sometimes things may move while you’re not there, such as doors opening and closing or objects falling off table. Know that any type of spirit that has the power to perform such feats may not be a friendly one. These spirits want their presence known to the homeowners, and should be taken seriously.

3. Being touched

Are you being touched when no one else is around, sometimes leaving a mark on your skin? Well, it could be another indicator your house has other inhabitants. You have to be careful though, brushing up against something or just feeling a slight breeze can sometimes feel like you’re being touched. Knowing for sure what touched you is important, so don’t jump to any conclusions just because you feel the hair on the back of your neck tingling. However, if marks are left after the encounter, or even bruises or cuts that you can’t explain, then it could be a sign of an evil spirit. If the problem escalates, you should research more into the subject and how to protect yourself from these types of entities as they can be very dangerous if left alone.

2. Sudden changes in mood or behavior

Although rare, depending on the types of signs you have, sometimes a more sinister entity may be residing in your home. These spirits may in fact not be spirits at all, but demonic in origin.  Sometimes the fear, anger, anxiety, and other emotions that the entity holds may be passed on to the residents of the house, causing mood and behavioral changes. In more serious cases, the outcome may be possession. One must be wary and cautious of both themselves and others if this is the case. Any changes in the mood or behavior of the household should be looked at more to prevent potential complications in the future. If full possession is allowed to take hold, then an exorcism will have to be performed.

1. Seeing is believing

The absolute best way of knowing your house is haunted is by actually seeing the entity itself. Spirits may manifest themselves before your very eyes, and if you got a sharp eye, you may be able to catch a glimpse of it. Seeing is believing, and it’s almost a surefire way of knowing your house is haunted. Figures of full bodied people may appear or disappear in some cases. You may see people who look entirely normal and vanish before your very eyes. These people may appear to be pale, wounded, bloody, or in the same state they died in. These people aren’t your typical shadowy figure or mist in the corner of your eye, and more often than not, these are the souls of people who have died in terrible ways. An example of this is at the Gettysburg battlefield, some visitors may see full figured soldiers marching into battle and fading away into the night. Sometimes these ghostly images may repeat what they previously did when they died, often replaying over and over like a video recording. Their souls have passed but the images of them remain stamped on the environment.

In the 1970’s a new family moved into what they believed to be the perfect home.  Immediately the strange happenings began.  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fletcher and their four children moved into this 100 year old house that at one time had been a roadside inn.  In the home there was a supernatural terror that had the family scared for their lives.  They turned to exorcism and Fr. Alphonsus Trabold for help.  He believed that the Fletcher home was possessed by a supernatural entity.
Mrs. Fletcher and the children first noticed a mysterious chanting sound when hiking in the hills near their home, which disappeared 3 weeks later.  The phone would ring with no one on the other line, the family heard pounding noises, and money and other things would be displaced or completely disappear.  Lights went on and off by themselves, the kitchen stove would turn on and off while cooking dinner, windows opened mysteriously and water faucets would turn on and off by themselves.  One of the children heard dragging noises in the attic, only to have Mr. Fletcher check it out and find the chimney dismantled.
The family also witnessed things moving by themselves.  The Fletchers, along with their friends, also began seeing apparitions, mostly of women dressed in long gowns, both inside and outside the house.  Once the family saw several faces looking at them through the window, and when they went outside to check it out, the same faces were looking back at them from inside while the lights flickered on and off.  They also witnessed other apparitions of strange animal-like creatures that were not of a known species.  According to Fr. Alphonsus, apparitions can be caused by hallucinations or by a psychic force.  “If the person is of a stable mind and the apparition is witnessed by others, you can eliminate the possibility of hallucinations,” he said.
As the strange happenings progressed, the apparitions began leaving physical evidence behind.  There would be indentations on chairs and beds when no one had sat on them, and the animal-like apparition jumped into the daughter’s lap.  Two family friends caught an apparition, that was in the process of disappearing, walking outside the house on film.  Fr. Trabold and other priests thought it looked like the figure of a tormented American Indian.
After that, the haunting grew violent and the family began fearing for their lives.  There was a large family photograph hanging in a room, and once the family found a letter opener suspended over the picture, pointing at one of the girls.  It fell to the ground as the family tried to approach it.  Another time, a lamp flew across the room at another one of the girls.  The Fletchers cleaned up the glass and locked the door to the room, and when they returned sometime later, they found the ace of spades lying in the middle of the floor.  Two of the children woke up one morning with strange burn marks all over their bodies.
A few days later, the grandmother heard the Fletchers’ son Randy’s car in the driveway.  She looked out the window and saw Randy and a blonde haired woman drive up to the house and then drive away.  Later on that day, the grandmother found out that Randy’s car had been in the garage all day and was not in operable condition.  A couple days after that, Randy was involved in a near fatal car accident when apparently his car went out of control and hit a tree.  While he was semi-conscious in the hospital, he kept asking about the blonde woman, but she was never found.  However, there was evidence of a passenger because the dashboard contained the indentation of a human head.  A mechanic could not explain the nature of the car’s malfunction.  Randy has complete amnesia about the accident.
Fr. Trabold performed an exorcism on the house, with family members, researchers, and a film crew present.  During the filming of the exorcism, the lights kept flickering.  The house was calm for a few weeks after, but after the effects of prayer wore off, the strange occurrences began happening again, and the family eventually moved out.

I Got this book strictly because i had JUST gotten my kindle and was looking for a quick read. I went solely based off amazon reader reviews , i had virtually never heard of the story, let alone the book.

First off i will say that its very well written. It cuts to the chase quickly while giving some good background to the family and the house. The accounts of the activity are very detailed as its written in Journal form.  Some scary shit went down in that house i will tell you that.  Which ultimately resulted in a exorcism of the property and the family moving out.   Good read, i reccommend it. :D

AMAZON BOOK DESCRIPTION: “Echoes of a Haunting Revisited” is a re-issue and adds some material not in the original book. It tells the story of a family under siege. From the time the Dandy family moved to their “home in the country” in 1970 until they fled it in 1974, they were plagued but unexplainable and terrifying events. When they tell you ghosts can’t harm you, take it with a grain of salt. Perhaps they can’t affect you directly but they can sure cause incidents that can kill. The book is told in semi-diary form to keep it in (hopefully) order. If you don’t believe in the paranormal, you’d better not read this book. If you want to learn something, by all means read it and learn.
